The Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia had launched the Strategic Plan for International Marketing of Higher Education in Malaysia 2006-2010 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 23 January 2007. In the strategic marketing plan, the main aim was to identify the marketing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to higher leaning in Malaysia. The strategy is to woo 100, 000 international students to study in the country by 2010. The Honourable Minister said the Ministry planned to run 60 promotion programmes overseas this year. The promotions will be carried out together with
public and private higher learning institutions and other agencies such as Tourism Malaysia and MATRADE. A higher Education Promotion Council is being set up to find out ways to recruit more international students for the local institutions of higher learning.
